(A) Purpose and Intent. The following paragraphs set standards for outdoor lighting installations which conserve energy and protect the environment without decreasing safety, utility, security and productivity, while enhancing nighttime enjoyment of property within the jurisdiction.

(1) The sale, leasing, installation or operation of un-shielded mercury vapor or similar high‑intensity lighting fixtures is prohibited. Any such fixtures currently in operation shall be deactivated no later than ninety (90) days following the effective date of this ordinance.

(3) Glare or stray light from outdoor lighting fixtures shall not be visible beyond property lines, from roadways, or in the atmosphere above such lighting installations.

(4) The use of photocells to activate lights at dusk and deactivate such lights at dawn is discouraged. Use of magnetic vehicle sensors or other motion sensors is strongly encouraged.
